University of Alaska System has a policy (P05.10.050; line B) that provides any veteran, spouse, or dependent who is eligible for Veterans Administration education benefits an exemption from nonresident tuition surcharges and is treated as a resident for the purpose of tuition assessment.

Tuition Assistance for Alaska National Guard:
This program provides full coverage for tuition and fees up to $1,000.00 per year at state schools. Reimbursement of tuition/fees is not to exceed $2,000 annually at other colleges/universities. Primary considerations are first-term soldiers, then 2LT-CPT(s) without bachelor’s degrees, and then all remaining applicants.
Eligibility: National Guard member with at least ninety days active duty.
